How dewatering in mining is benefitted by layflat hose assemblies

Layflat hose pipelines are often used in mine dewatering as an efficient and labour-saving solution. Using layflat hose assemblies are yet another way to take advantage of the many positive characteristics of flexible hose and secure fittings. Crusader Hose offers tested and certified hose assemblies for temporary or permanent water transfer applications.

Many mines are now choosing to use layflat hose pipelines as the ideal dewatering solution. There is also a growing realisation of the benefits of using layflat hose assemblies for smaller-scaled projects. This is because layflat hose is flexible, portable, and adaptable. Crusader Hose provides hose assemblies with secure and reliable fittings, making them the obvious choice for any project.

ISO Certified layflat hose

Crusader Hose has been manufacturing layflat hose for more than 38 years and is proud to be an Australian company with an ISO 9001:2023-certified quality management system. They specialise in building hose assemblies that can be used for a wide range of applications. Whether you need to connect them to your poly pipeline or use them with your pumps and water transfer equipment, which require frequent movement, their flexible hose assemblies are the perfect solution.

Flexible hose assemblies

One of the advantages of lay-flat hose assemblies over poly pipe is their flexibility. Easy to deploy, flexible hose assemblies are manufactured in one continuous piece, requiring no welding or joins. Point A is rarely in a straight line to point B. Flexible hose assemblies take the concern out of the placement between connection points. Kinking is minimised while optimum flow is maintained.

Layflat hose is adaptable

Layflat hose is known for its manoeuvrability, making it suitable for various site conditions. As it adapts to different terrains, the destructive impact on the environment is minimal compared to HDPE.

High-pressure capable

Hose assemblies are available in various hoses holding pressures of up to 5200kPa with a selection of fittings. The secure and reliable fittings handle the demands of daily use for trouble-free pumping.

Mining hose fittings

Crusader Hose offers four different types of fitting systems: wire whipped, swaged, Band-it clamps and Boa™ clamps.

With wire whipping, specialist machinery is used to wind high-quality 316 stainless steel wire around the coupling tails and hose, securing the fitting. Swaging also requires a powerful tool, which uses compression as the locking interface between hose and fitting.

Easy on-site fitting of the Boa clamp allows the user to customise the hose length and refit the couplings when required. Made of three segments, the Boa clamp has a highly technical design, which bolts together easily with its unique mating profiles.

The Band-it clamp is a long-lasting and maintenance-free clamping method that resists rust and damage through ordinary use. The Band-it clamp is a very cost-effective method requiring a simple banding tool and a hammer.

Crusader Hose offers test tag and certification service on all hose assemblies.
Testing your layflat hose assembly ensures its integrity. It helps validate performance, ensuring the hose meets its specifications. Testing provides peace of mind.

Robust for mining application

The extruded PU exterior of the hose assemblies will guarantee robust performance in diverse environments. Although no hose is indestructible, these assemblies will last many years under normal use. Care must be taken in situations when sharp rocks are present.

Portable and reusable for sustainability

Easily wound up for delivery and/or storage, flatpack hose is compact and easy to transport. Oftentimes, hose coils can be conveniently packed into a ute or similar vehicle. The assemblies are reusable, making layflat hose a more sustainable solution. Specialised polyurethane (PU) straps can be used for shorter lengths as a way to secure the hose coil.
